Forensic Science Description
Forensics is concerned with the recognition, identification, individualization, and evaluation of physical evidence using the methods of the natural sciences. Some of the major areas of this specialty include toxicology, odontology, trace evidence (hair, fibers, glass, etc.), ballistics, explosives, accelerates, and fingerprint examination. Their research, examinations, and findings are used as evidence in legal cases.

Programs in forensic science combine courses in investigation, evidence, criminal law and procedures, with science and math courses in chemistry, calculus, analytic geometry, and quantitative analysis. They include training in classification, evidence presentation, court testimony preparation, and some include training in the new Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).
