This course will familiarize attendees with hazards and stressors that may impact the health and safety of workers and responders at a disaster site. Students will apply their knowledge of safety and incident command in a disaster scenario and employ Incident Command System methodology to review and/or develop safety and medical plans, safety messages, and a safety analysis of an Incident Action Plan.
Students who complete this course will able to:
• Effectively integrate safety planning into the Incident Command System
• Address hazards and evaluate risks associated with a disaster site, beyond the day-to-day work environment
• Identify and triage controls for hazards in a resource constrained environment
• Understand and respond to psychosocial impacts of working in a high stress disaster environment
